The University offers a wide range of services for inventors and businesses ranging from technical and business consultancy to training and networking. It also opens up its excellent library to the local community.

One of the University's latest initiatives is the Ideas Gateway which tests and refines business ideas and inventions in private brainstorming sessions. This initiative was inspired by the famous "Baylis Breakout" sessions which Trevor Baylis demonstrated at Brass from Gumption event on 18 Feb 2005.

Patent, design and other searches are offered periodically from the Media Centre by Ged Doonan and Stef Stephenson of Leeds Patent Information Unit.

Peter Bissell and Graham Barker offer an invention assessment service for a flat fee.
